Professor Yoshihiro Kanno will take you through the history of Japanese traditional music in his public lecture with video excerpts of his epic theatrical work “Memories of the Sun Goddess ‘Himiko’.” Queen Himiko ruled Yamatai Kingdom in ancient Japan almost 2000 years ago. The work brings together western and Japanese instruments as well as traditional theatrical and dance forms such as Kabuki, Gagaku (Imperial Court music and dance) and Shomyo (a style of Buddhist chanting).

Speakers: Professor Yoshihiro Kanno and Professor Noriko Ohtake

Free and open to the public
